Realizing Yourself as a Hero...and not as a Superhero

I have an announcement to make: Do not be a SUPERHERO! Be a HERO!

A good man, Bo Sanchez, wrote in his article that everyone of us is a hero. And I agree to that.

Everyone of us is a hero. We just don't realize ourselves that we are heroes.

I would just like to elaborate more about YOU being a hero. About ME being a hero. About US being a hero. EVERYONE is a hero.

Some of us, if not all of us, act like we are superheroes. Being a hero and being a superhero are two different things. A hero is someone who is illustrious, a man of valor, of remarkable action. A superhero is a benevolent "fictional" character endowed with superhuman powers. The former being a "fact" while the latter being a "fiction."

Yes! What you read was true. There is no such thing as a superhero. Sorry children, and child-like people, but Spiderman, Batman, Ironman, the X-Men, Superman, Lastikman, Captain Barbell, and all other superheroes out there that we used to grow with during our childhood days...they are NOT true! And no one can ever be born like them. I may sound like Green Goblin, the Joker, the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants, Lex Luthor, Ipisman, or Braguda, but let's all face the reality, superheroes (and their archvillains) are all lies.

Well, if you insist and believe in yourself that you are a superhero, then prove yourself. If you survive jumping from the 20th floor of a high-rise building, then, you are a superhero. If you can catch a speeding bullet, then you are a superhero. If you have more lives than a cat, then you are a superhero. And if you think you can stick your tongue with your elbows, then hell you are abnormal! 1Well I believe someone can do lick their elbows. Out of the 6 billion people existing in this world, one or two among us are capable of doing so.

But mind you, you need not prove yourself to become a superhero...because there are NO superheroes. And you cannot be a superhero.

But I don't want to demoralize you or be against the Lord. Because with the Lord, nothing is impossible, right? So you can still be a superhero. Anyway, it's not bad to dream. Believe in yourself and you may survive that 20-storey fall.

But then again, there are ONLY heroes. And everyone of us is a hero. We just don't realize it. We just don't believe in it. We just don't nurture it. We just don't do it.

EVERYONE OF US IS A HERO

I was inspired by an article written by Bo Sanchez, saying that we are all heroes. Everyone of us are heroes.

Even in our very own ways, either how BIG or small it is, we are heroes.

Even if you are the richest of the rich, the poorest of the poor, you are a hero.

Even how fat you are or how skinny you are, man, woman, you are a hero.

That's why whenever someone tells you that you are her "knight in a shining-shimmering armor," just wink at her and say, "Yeah!"

REALIZE FOR YOURSELF THAT YOU ARE A HERO

We may not know it, unless you have read this (or Bo's article) that you are a hero.

The most important thing is to realize for yourself that you are a hero. It is now time for you to know that you are a hero.

But how am I a hero? You may not realize it but the way you do things, big or small it is, is a blessing in-disguise for other people.

A mom who wakes up early in the morning, cooks and prepares baon for her children, is an act of love, not knowing that she is a hero to her children.

A taxi driver who returns a hundred thousand pesos left by a passenger, not knowing that the money is to be used as payment for that passenger's daughter who has brain tumor, is a hero saving the child's life.

Who would have thought that just being a gentleman is an act of heroism. Opening a door for a lady, you are definitely a hero in-disguise.

Being a church worker is being a hero in the eyes of God.

How about watering the plants? Segregating your garbage? Planting trees? You are doing small yet big acts of kindness to our environment and to other people. And that definitely is being a hero to Mother-Nature.

I call this, invisible acts of kindness or invisible acts of heroism.

Indirect acts that are invisible to the eyes of others but turns-out to be a good act that inflicts positive results to those who are ignorant or unaware about it.

You may have segregated your garbage and disposed of it properly, but without knowing and unintentionally, you have caused less clogging in the esteros minimizing flood in your area.

BELIEVE THAT YOU ARE A HERO

Realizing that you are a hero is a prerequisite to believing that you are a hero. You might still be in shock when you heard that you are a hero, but do not remain to be in awe. Just accept the fact that you are a hero.

Believe in yourself. Because once you've believed in yourself, then that's the time that you can become a hero and do more good things in your life that will in turn affect the people around you, directly or indirectly.

DO YOUR PART BEING A HERO

Once you have realized, once you have believed, then you have to do something about it. Realizing and believing doesn't put an end to it. It's not yet the period ending a sentence. Doing your 'being a hero thing' is in the process of completing your sentence -- and that is your being a hero.

Being a hero is not an act of self-fulfillment.

It is an act that is towards others. For the betterment of the worse. For the upliftment of the wicked. An act of kindness.

Now that I reiterated (from Bo Sanchez's article) that you are a hero, now it's time to realize and accept the very fact that even though you are a hero doesn't mean that you are a good person at all.

Because there are those that we consider as deserving to be called, 'TRUE HEROES.'

And I leave you to that question: "Am I a True Hero?"
